Introduction and Importance of Vedic Math

Vedic Math is a very refined and efficient calculating system. In fact, it is said to be the world’s fastest mental algebraic mathematic system. It was re-discovered in India, by Swami Bharati Krishna Tirtha, between 1911 and 1918. He is credited for the revival of this ancient method of fast mathematical calculations.

Vedic Mathematics comprises simple techniques of calculation. It is based on a set of 16 Sutras as algorithms and their sub-sutras or corollaries derived from the parent Sutras. The formulas are made in a similar way that the mind naturally works. Thus it is easier and simpler to understand, making math  fun and interesting. The steps are simple and clear, that with practice it can be solved mentally.

The Sutras along with their concepts are all interrelated and methodical. For instance, the general multiplication method, is easily reversed to allow one-line divisions. A simple squaring method can be reversed to give one-line square roots.

The Vedic Math tricks are straightforward to learn and use. There are fewer steps to solve a problem which makes it much more fun and faster. The methods used in Vedic Math are complementary, direct and simple to understand. There are also several advantages in using a flexible, mental system of math. Student is not limited to any one method. It is free to invent their own techniques to solve a problem. This encourages more creativity, interest and innovation in a learner. The systematic approach in Vedic Math is very effective in boosting brain power. It also the helps students to develop complex cognitive ability, comprehension, focus and retention. To summarize, Vedic Math is a very refined, efficient, scientific and systematic approach to math. It helps develop interest in innovation, creativity and learning in a student.
