Learn an awesome Vedic Math trick for mental multiplication. The condition for the trick is that the first digit is the same and the last digits add to make 10. E.g. 54 x 56 where both the tens place has 5 and the units place adds to 10 (4+6 = 10).
TWO DIGIT MULTIPLICATION
RULE : First digit is the same in both the numbers AND the sum of second digit totals to 10
STEPS
Step 1 : Multiply first number with one number greater than the first number
Step 2 : Multiply the second digits
EXPLANATION : Multiply 32 x 38
Step 1 : Multiply First Number with one number Greater than the first number
3 x 4 = 12
Step 2 : Multiply the Second Digits
2 x 8 = 16
ANSWER : 1216
EXAMPLES
Multiply 14 x 16 = 224 (1x2 and 4x6)
Multiply 41 x 49 = 2009 (4x5 and 1x9)
EXERCISE : Mentally multiply 28 x 22
