VERSE 7,8,9 Chapter 1 Gita FOR LAYMAN (Yatra Tatra Sarvatra)

DURYODHANA tells about Kaurav warriors and Generals to DRONACHARYA :- O best of Brahmans, know them also who are the principal warriors on our side, the generals of my army. For your information I mention them here. Yourself and BHUSHMA, KARNA and KRIPACHARYA who is ever victorious in battle; and even so ASHWATTHAMA, VIKARNA and BHURISHRAVA- the son of SOMADATTA; And many other heroes, equipped with various weapons and missiles, who have staked their lives for me, all skilled in warfare.
Let’s know about these warriors one by one. DRONACHARYA was Chief Commander of the Kaurava army from 11 to 15th day of MAHABHARATA war.
PITAMAHA BHISHMA was Chief Commander of Kauravas in the war of MAHABHARATA. On the 10th day of the war his grandson ARJUNA took the human shield SHIKHANDI and pierced the body of BHISHMA with so many arrows. He was laid on the bed of arrows pierced by his beloved grandson ARJUNA and observed the entire warfare. He also preached so many words of knowledge to Pandavas and Kauravas both. At last BHISHMA took his last breath by his own wish in Uttarayana when the SUN begins its movement away from the Tropic of Capricorn, towards the Northern Hemisphere.
MAHARATHI KARNA was Chief Commander of Kaurava Army in MAHABHARATA war on 16th and half of 17th day. At last KARNA was killed by ARJUNA on 17th day of MAHABHARATA war when he had no weapon in hand but trying to pull out the wheel of his chariot out of mud.
King SHANTANU felt pity on the twins KRIP and KRIPI and brought them up. He was fighting for Kauravas in the war of KURUKSHETRA AND when they vanished he came with Pandavas. Later on he taught Military Science to the last surviving prince of Pandavas- PARIKSHIT. It is believed that KRIPACHARYA is one of the seven immortals.
ASHWATTHAMA was the son of DRONACHARYA and KRIPI. On the 18th day of the war of MAHABHARATA, BHIMA broke the thigh of DURYODHANA and wounded him badly. Only three persons were survived in KAURAVA army; KRIPACHARYA, ASHWATTHAMA and KRITAVARMA. DURYODHANA appointed ASHWATTHAMA as Chief Commander.
VIKARNA was younger brother of DURYODHANA. He was the strongest KAURAVA after DURYODHANA and DUSSASHAN. On 14th day of MAHABHARATA war, BHIMA was fighting against VIKARNA, in which VIKARNA was badly wounded by BHIMA. VIKARNA smiled and said to BHIMA – He should perform his last rites and thus he took last breath. Though BHIMA killed VIKARNA but he was not happy with his action. He had tears in his eyes and he was cursing himself and the war for killing of a noble person like VIKARNA.
BHURISHRAVA, was the son of SOMADATTA and grandson of King BAHLIK. SATYAKI was the grandson of this yadav warrior SHINI. On the 14th day of MAHABHARATA war when ARJUNA was fighting a fierce battle, BHURISHRAVA and SATYAKI clashed on another front. They fought relentlessly and at last they were fighting a duel. All of a sudden BHURISHRAVA picked the sword and was about to behead SATYAKI, ARJUNA chopped off his hand with an arrow and thus saved SATYAKI. BHURISHRAVA complained to ARJUNA that he had done wrong act without warning him. ARJUNA said that when he was inclined to kill unarmed SATYAKI, was that right? When he surrounded the minor and unarmed boy ABHIMANYU with other Kaurav warriors and collectively killed him, was that ethical? Then why did he complaining now? BHURISHRAVA bowed his head with shame and sat down in lotus posture. SATYAKI immediately attacked and chopped off his head from body.
