The Trusting Camel
Story in Audio

Moral of the Story : Beware of deceptive and untrustworthy ‘friends’

Once upon a time, there lived a lion Sher. He had three friends : a crow, a jackal and a wolf. These three were very nice to Sher and followed his every command, as he was very powerful and the king of the jungle. The three animals also enjoyed and feasted everyday after Sher ate and left the dead prey.

One day a camel from near by jungle got lost in Sher’s kingdom. The trio advised Sher to kill the camel for a good feast, but Sher took the camel under his protection. Disheartened, the trio now had to behave and not hurt the camel. But everyday they would seek to plot to kill the camel.

Meanwhile, the innocent camel considered the trio his very good friends and trusted them completely.  In a stroke of bad luck, one day Sher got very badly hurt. Now he could not hunt anymore until his broken leg was healed. Sher was getting weaker by every passing day. The trio was very frustrated as their meals had stopped and they were too lazy to hunt themselves. They hatched a plot to kill the camel.

The trio went to Sher and convinced him that the camel wanted to sacrifice himself to honor the king for his kindness. Then they went to the camel and told him that each one of them will offer themselves to Sher to save him from dying of hunger. They asked the camel to come along. As the trio approached Sher, one by one they offered themselves to the lion, only to be rejected by the next saying that he was too small. As per the plan they collectively looked at the camel, who did the same and humbly offered himself to Sher.

Sher was hungry and convinced that, that was the camel’s wish, so he gladly killed and ate the camel. The camel had to pay a huge price for trusting the wrong company, who never had any good intentions for him.
